Ampere Vehicles, manufacturers of electric vehicles, today requested the union government to mandate compulsory use of battery operated vehicles in disposing solid waste "towards building a clean ecosystem'.
Hemalatha Annamalai, founder-CEO of the Coimbatore based company, in a statement on the occasion of world environment day today, said making use of battery vehicles compulsory would be a milestone in building a clean ecosystem 'adopting a cleaner mode'.
Ampere Vehicles has already supplied battery operated electric three wheelers for waste collection and segregation in Coimbatore district, she said.
"The vehicles have been successfully deployed and are operated by women Self Help Groups in Kurudampalayam panchayat in Coimbatore", she said.
Ampere Vehicles also aspires to bring e-cycles to villages to provide cost savings and convenience, she said.
Annamalai requested the Centre to take steps to convert 30 per cent of the existing automobile fleet into electric vehicles by 2030 and allow financial institutions to provide loans for purchase of electric vehicles.
