Make strong laws to protect the elderly: MP to Govt

A fervent plea for framing of a strong law to protect senior citizens who are abandoned by their children was made in the Rajya Sabha today by a BJP member.

Raising the matter during Zero Hour, Shwait Malik said it was "unfortunate" that children were abondoning parents and leaving them alone in old-age homes.

It is sad that senior citizens were increasingly shifted to such homes, he said and urged the government to bring a strong law to protect senior citizens.

"The government should ensure health and social security" of senior citizens, he said.
