'Mamata should create a precedence by releasing Netaji files'

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's grand-nephew Chandra Bose today said his family was still waiting for West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee to create a precedence by declassifying files held by the state government.

"The Bose family had written numerous letters to the West Bengal chief minister for her support on this national issue. But till today there has been no response from the chief minister," Bose said.

He said that the state government alone has 64 secret files relating to the fate of the nationalist leader after he went missing in 1945.

It would not only set a precedent but also would lead the way for complete declassification of all Netaji files held by the central government and state governments, Bose, convener of the Open Platform for Netaji, which has been demanding declassification, said.

Trinamool Congress MP Sugata Bose, who is also a grand-nephew of Netaji, had yesterday demanded in Parliament that the Centre must make public the name of those who had ordered snooping on Netaji's kin.

The Bose family had last week hit the city streets demanding declassification of files on the freedom fighter.
