The Calcutta High Court today rejected the bail prayer of Mamta Agarwal, the principal of a school where two persons were killed in gunfire over a property dispute.

A division bench comprising Justice Subhrokamal Mukherjee and Justice R K Bag rejected the bail plea of Agarwal who ran a school on a prime property on Short Street off Park Street in the heart of the city. Tussle over the control of the property led to the deaths.

Counsels for Agarwal pleaded that she had been in the custody for 80 days and that the running of the school was being affected owing to her incarceration.

The prosecution lawyers submitted that investigation was not yet complete and that releasing her on bail at this juncture would hamper the probe.

A sub-inspector, who was the investigating officer in the case at the outset, posted at Shakespeare Sarani police station, has also been arrested by the Detective Department of Kolkata Police, which is now investigating the case.
