Man arrested for raping 16-yr-old girl

A man hailing from Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district has been arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old Dalit girl, police said today.

The accused, identified as Vinod, allegedly raped the girl, a resident of Garhi Alawalpur village near Dharuhera, about three months back and then left the area following the incident, police said.

The accused, who used to work at a private firm here, again visited the village yesterday for the first time since the alleged crime and was caught by the victim's family members and later handed over to police.

He was today produced in a local court which remanded him to judicial custody.
 

Besides rape, the accused has also been charged under the SC/ST Act.
