Man arrested on charges of sexual harassment

A 40-year-old man was arrested today on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl, his neighbour, at Rasipuram in the district, police said.

Velmurugan invited the seven-year-old girl to his house for watching a TV programme and sexually assaulted her. Hearing the girl's cries, others in the area rushed and rescued her, police told PTI.

On a complaint from her parents, a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the All Women Police Station and the man was arrested, police said.

The girl underwent a medical examination at the government hospital here, police added.
