A person was arrested and over 24 kg of poppy straw was recovered from his possession in this district of Jammu and Kashmir today, a police official said.
During a surprise raid, a police team apprehended a car coming from Anantnag district towards Jammu near the Jawahar Tunnel area on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway, the official said.
He said that during the search of the car two packets containing 24.5 kg of poppy straw were recovered.
The driver, identified as Abdul Hamid, was arrested from the spot and booked under various sections of the NDPS act, he said adding that investigations have been initiated into the case.
