A court in Sarangpur town here has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for kidnapping and raping a girl in 2016.
Additional Sessions Judge Ashok Kumar Sharma awarded the sentence to Mahesh Yadav yesterday.
"The accused, identified as Mahesh Yadav, had abducted the girl and took her to Indore and other places, where he raped her," District Prosecution Officer Alok Shrivastava said.
The accused kidnapped the girl when she was going to school on February 29 last year. He blindfolded the victim by using her dupatta and pushed her into a car. Besides Indore, he also raped her at a number of other places.
Her parents had lodged a complaint against the accused and a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, following which he was arrested.
