Man gets 7 years RI for raping woman

A local court has sentenced a man to seven-years rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty of raping a woman last year.

The district and sessions court Judge Durga Dabar, who delivered the verdict yesterday, also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Ashok Singh Rajput (35) for raping the woman on January 14, 2012 when she was returning home.

The incident had happened in Kevlari town in Seoni district, the prosecution said.

The court found Rajput guilty under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
