A 23-year-old man was arrested today for allegedly posing as a Naval officer, police said.
Police recovered a Navy uniform, several fake badges, two fake identity cards of the naval service and a two-wheeleron which Navy was written from the Aundh residence of the accused, identified as Rajan Sharma.
Sharma is a native of West Bengal, a police officer said.
"We had received a tip-off about a person roaming around in the city in Naval uniform and impersonating an officer. We reached his apartment and exposed him after questioning," the Chatushringipolice station officer said.
He said Sharma had many cheating cases pending against him in various police stations across the city.
Sharma was allegedly involved in an online fraud wherein he would take money from clients who wanted to buy a pet, but would not honour the deal, the officer said.
He was booked for impersonation under section of 171 (Wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent) of the Indian Penal Code.
