A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly getting his father killed to secure a government job, police said today.

On January 20, Ramavtar Sharma (59), headmaster of a government primary school here, was beaten to death at his home in Garhi locality of Anoopshahr town, about 40 kms from here, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Ashok Kumar said.

The house was ransacked and the victim's cellphone taken away by the miscreants, he added.

After investigation, police zeroed in on the victim's elder son Pankaj. During interrogation, Pankaj confessed to have hired three persons for Rs 1 lakh to kill his father, he said.

The accused also confessed that his father was to retire after one year and he being the eldest son would be eligible for a government job if Ramavtar died before retirement.

The police have recovered the cellphone of the deceased and nabbed one of the three hired killers, Kumar said, adding that efforts are on to arrest the other two.
