Man held on theft charges dies in police custody

A person detained on theft charges died in custody in Tambore police station here prompting authorities to order a probe into the incident, police said today.

Yameen (32), who was brought for interrogation at the police station yesterday after his name figured in a theft case, died in custody, Additional Superintendent of Police Jagdeep Singh said.

He said that a probe has been ordered into the matter and the body of the victim has been sent for postmortem to ascertain the cause of death.
