Man jailed to for ten years for smuggling liquor

A Begusarai court today sentenced a man to 10 years in jail for indulging in illegal liquor trade in the district.

Special Judge (Excise) Anil Kumar Sinha sentenced Agnu Sahni to jail after convicting him under section 30(A) of the Bihar Prohibition And Excise Act, 2016.

The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Sahni.

As per the FIR in the case, 1,104 bottles of country made liquor - each containing 400 ml- were seized from the convict's house at Kumbhi village under Cheria Bariarpur police station area of the district.

Police had raided his house after getting a tip off in this regard on April 12, 2016, it said.
 

This is the first instance of any person getting convicted under prohibition law in Begusarai district.
