Man makes abortive bid to loot ATM

An unidentified man today made an attempt to loot an ATM in nearby Mettur Dam in the wee hours but escaped on noticing a police patrol approaching the area, police said.

The man, who was wearing a monkey cap, entered the ATM of Tata Indicash, and snapped all wires and disabled the CCTV camera.

When the personnel in the patrol van approached the ATM, he took to his heels and escaped under the cover of darkness.

The cash box was intact, police said.

Mettur Dam DSP Natarajan visited the spot.
