Man refuses to vote for particular candidate in panchayat

A man was allegedly beaten to death by four persons after he refused to cast his ballot in favour of their candidate for Punjab panchayat poll, police said here today.

The incident took place at Kaler village in Ranger Nangal area on Sunday and the victim has been identified as Satnam Singh, they said.

According to police, the four took Satnam to an election meeting in the village. After the meeting, they started convincing him to exercise his franchise in favour of their candidate in the July 3 panchayat polls but when he refused, the four thrashed him dumped him in front of his house.
 

The injured Satnam was rushed to civil hospital where he died during treatment.

On his wife's statement, police have registered a case against Nirmal, Balbir, Baldev and Gurmeet Singh but no arrest has been made so far.
