A 30-year-old man tried to kill his wife by setting her on fire before allegedly committing suicide over a family dispute at Kadergarh village in Shamli district, police said today.
The incident took place yesterday under Thana Bhawan police station, when the victim Praveen Kumar set his wife Rekha on fire after she opposed his drinking habit, police said, adding Kumar then set himself ablaze.
According to police, Kumar died on the spot while Rekha was rushed to a hospital where her condition is slated to be serious.
Rekha was married with Praveen six years ago and the couple has two children.
