Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today asked the Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) and Manipur University Teacher's Association (MUTA) to call off their strike demanding the removal of the varsity Vice-Chancellor A P Pandey.

A delegation of the MUSU and MUTA today called on the chief minister and held talks with him regarding their demand.

The academic activities at the university have been under suspension for over 55-days as teachers, students and staff associations are agitating for Pandey's removal.

After the talks, Singh said "I have requested MUSU and MUTA to call off their strike."

The Union HRD Ministry has constituted a fact-finding committee on July 12 to inquire into the allegations of administrative negligence and mis-utilisation of funds by Pandey.

The committee was later reconstituted. The committee is now headed by T Nandakumar Singh, former acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya and comprises J K Tripathi, joint secretary, University Grants Commission and Surat Singh, Deputy Secretary, Department of Higher Education, HRD Ministry as members.

The fact-finding committee shall submit its report within a month, the order said.
