NCP's Avinash Mardikar was today elected chairman unopposed of Amravati Municipal Corporation's (AMC) standing committee.
Earlier, in the contest were Congress's Asif Tawakkal and Shiv Sena's Digambar but later, Congress withdrew its nomination after the intervention of Maharashtra Congress president Ashok Chavan. Sena followed suit after which Mardikar was elected unopposed.
"I will make efforts to boost finances of the civic body. Development is not taking place today in absence of adequate fund. My efforts will be towards raising funds. I will try to increase property tax by taking people into confidence," Mardikar told PTI after being elected.
