Masimaham festival celebrated

A large number of people took holy dip in the Mahamaham tank here today in connection with the Masimaham festival as it was celebrated in Shiva temples with religious fervour.

The important function of the festival is Theerthavari.

Idols of deities of temples of AdhiKumbeswarar, Abimukeswarar, Nageswaran, Kasivisvanathar and Banpureeswarar besides other shrines were taken in a procession to the Mahamaham tank bank and Theerthavari held.

Kumbakonam is famous for the Mahamaham festival that occurs once in 12 years.The Mahamaham festival falls in 2016.
