Mathrubhumi Group announces foray into journalism education

The Mathrubhumi Group today announced its foray into journalism education with the launch of a media school here to encourage the future generation to rise "to the top of today's demanding news and media professions."

The Mathrubhumi Media School, scheduled to open in July, would have the objective of promoting excellence in the field of media, the group, which brings out the Malayalam daily 'Mathrubhumi' and other publications, said in a release here.

The school would infuse broad knowledge, integrity and social commitment and ensure immersive professional experiences throughout its curriculum, it said.

The school will offer full-time one-year PG Diploma programmes in Print Journalism and Broadcast Journalism, the release said.

 

The year-long programmes include hands-on media exposure, projects and assignments which are specially focused on experiential learning through field experience, collaboration with leading media houses for training and two months internship with a stipend for meritorious students, the release said.

M V Shreyams Kumar, Joint Managing Director, Mathrubhumi Group said: "This is a historic milestone for a 94-year-old media company; we wish to help build great leaders, build skills and expertise which will be a testament of our organisation's philosophy and belief."

George Sebastian, Dean, Mathrubhumi Media School said,"We are confident of imparting a wholesome learning experience to students which involves not just the theory of journalism, but they also get to practice what they learn.
