MCD polls: 2 lakh liquor bottles seized by police in 6 weeks

As many as two lakh liquor bottles were seized by the police in the last six weeks in the run-up to MCD polls.

"While 267 FIRs were lodged, 254 persons have been arrested with illegal liquor. As many as 2,148 persons were arrested for consuming liquor at public places till yesterday," said Dependra Pathak, chief spokesperson of Delhi Police.

"Two lakh liquor bottles were seized by the police in the last six weeks," he said.

Under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007, 265 cases were registered, he said.

As many as 625 posters, 658 banners and 273 hoardings have been removed, he added.
 

Police registered 37 cases for possession of illegal arms and seized 34 firearms, five knives and 64 cartridges.

The officer said that the force has been taking legal action in the run-up to the polls.
