MDMA seeks action against bogus dental mechanics

Press Trust of India Nagpur
Maharashtra Dental Mechanics Association (MDMA) has demanded strict action against over 3,500 "bogus" dental mechanics allegedly operating in the state without required education qualification.

MDMA president Shivaji Naik said at a press conference here yesterday that the Maharashtra State Dental Council (MSDC) was not contemplating any action against the bogus mechanics and virtually playing with the health of patients.

The MDMA members had submitted a memorandum to state Education Minister Vinod Tawade, Commissioners of Police and Collectors of various districts. However, the officials have not initiated any action, Naik said.

The Association also charged the dentists with purchasing sub-standard artificial teeth from bogus mechanics.

"Sub-standard teeth are available in the market at very cheaper rates as compared to standard quality teeth. A large number of dentists are preferring cheaper teeth to earn more profits," Naik alleged.

The MSDC had issued a circular to all dentists on February 13, 2014, asking them not to purchase artificial teeth from bogus dental mechanics. However, the practice continues in the state, he lamented.
