Media baron Ramachandra Athithan passes away

Executive Editor of Tamil eveninger 'Malai Murasu', Ramachandra Athithan, passed away here today after a brief illness.

79-year old Athithan was not keeping well for some time and passed away at his house here, family sources said.

Eldest son of Si Pa Athithanar, founder of Tamil daily Dina Thanthi', Athithan headed Malai Murasu for over five decades.

He also founded Tamil magazines 'Devi', 'Kanmani' and 'Penmani' besides 'Kathiravan' a daily.

Athithan played a pivotal role in bringing back the TamilNad Mercantile into the fold of Nadar community.

He is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Union Minister G K Vasan, DMK President M Karunanidhi, Leader of the Opposition and DMDK chief Vijayakanth, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko and PMK founder leader S Ramadoss were among those who condoled his demise.
