A new concept of team-based consultancy to cardiac patients has been introduced in a city hospital for greater clarity and clear roadmap for them.
The step has been taken as there are instances when cardiac patients are advised angioplasty by one doctor and cardiac surgery by another, which confuse them and their family members.
Under the new concept introduced in Medica Hospital, the patient gets to meet an interventional cardiologist and a cardiac surgeon at the same time and they collectively advise him on what is best for him," a hospital release said here today.
"We started this clinic with the aim to ensure a rational approach with evidence-based medicine for better outcomes," said cardiac surgeon and hospital's senior vice-chairman Kunal Sarkar.
The 'Heart Team' concept is becoming an important concept in present-day cardiology practice and needs to become a routine practice to ensure better treatment of the patients, he added.
