A medical college student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in a bathroom of the institution's hostel.
The body of Navpreet Kaur (19), a first-year Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technician (BMLT) student, was found hanging in the bathroom of the hostel of Government Medical College last night, police said.
The incident was reported by the hostel warden late last night, Majitha Road police station SHO Gagandeep Singh said, adding that Kaur committed suicide with the help of a towel hanging stand.
After post mortem today, the body was handed over to the parents of Kaur, who are residents of the border village Ajnala, near Amritsar.
Investigations were on to find out the reason behind the girl's extreme step, police said.
