Medium sugar drops on subdued demand, small variety recovers

Prices of medium sugar dropped at the Vashi wholesale sugar market here today due to reduced offtake from stockists and bulk consumers amid millers selling.

Small sugar variety moved up on better retail as well upcountry demand.

Medium sugar (M-30) shed by Rs 22 to Rs 3,172/3,331 per quintal from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 3,194/3,331.

Small sugar (M-30), however, firmed up by Rs 1/10 to Rs 3,062/3,141 per quintal, as compared to Rs 3,052/3,140 previously.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,172/3,331 (Rs 3,194/3,331).
 

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,062/3,141 (Rs 3,052/3,140).
