Mehta topples top seed Jaiswal to enter semis

Nashik boy Vikrant Mehta caused the biggest upset of the day by toppling top seed Vandit Jaiswal to enter the boys' singles semi finals in the BVG India-Arun Wakankar ATF Asian Under 14 Series Tennis Tournament here today.

The tenth standard student overwhelmed Jaiswal 6-4 6-2 and joined Lucknow boy Rudra Kapoor, who scored an upset 6-2 6-2 win over third seed Vansh Bhagtani, in the last four.

Second seed Vipul Mehta and sixth seed Siddhant Bhavnani completed the boys' semi final line-up.

Mehta ousted Tejasvi Mehra 6-3 6-3 while Bhavnani shut out Gaurang Mishra 6-2 6-3 in the quarter finals.
 

In the girls' singles wild card Richa Chaugule of Pune continued her fabulous run by knocking out fifth seed Sana Khana 6-1 6-3 to enter the semis.

Also through to the last four was wild card Malikaa Marathe who led 5-0 in the opening set when her second-seeded rival Gauri Bhagia retired citing an injury.

Eighth seed Tannaya Sah tamed fourth seed Nikhita Simhambhatla 6-1 6-4 while no. 6 Mubashira Shaikh eliminated Aishwarya Patil Andalkar(Ind) 6-2 6-0.
