Mercury dips as rain lashes Punjab, Haryana

Rainfall lashed many places in Punjab and Haryana today, causing mercury to drop by a few notches in the region.

Chandigarh, which received light showers, recorded a maximum temperature of 30.4 deg Celsius, four notches below normal, the MeT office here said.

In Haryana, Hisar (98.3 mm) was lashed by heavy rains early today and the maximum temperature dropped to 30.5 deg C, down five notches.

Bhiwani (45.2 mm), too, received heavy showers and the maximum temperature was recorded at 30.4 deg C, down four notches while Ambala's high dropped by three degrees to 30.1 deg C after light rains.
 

In Punjab, heavy rains lashed Amritsar (63.6 mm) early today, with the maximum settling at 30.8 deg C, down three degrees.

With rains lashing Ludhiana and Patiala, both towns recorded four degrees each below normal maximums of 29 deg C and 29.1 deg C, respectively.

Meanwhile, the MeT officials forecast moderate to rather heavy rain or thunder showers at many places in both the states until tomorrow, after which there is likely to be a decrease in the rainfall activity.
