A migrant farm worker was bludgeoned to death with bricks by a labourer in a drunken brawl at nearby Nangal Majha village, police said today.

The deceased has been identified as Vishram Samad, (38), belonging to Semria village in Jharkhand. His body was found this morning lying in a pool of blood in the fields, they said.

According to the police, Samad and the accused had drank together last night at a farmer's house where the victim was employed. But they seemed to have picked up a quarrel in the state of drunkenness after which the accused hit the victim with bricks fatally.

The accused, along with his wife and a child, had fled away after the murder. However, the name of the accused was not yet known, they said.

Phagwara SP Parminder Singh Bhandal, who visited the site, said that a case was registered in this connection under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of IPC.
