Press Trust of India Chennai
Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Welfare Sangam today called off its indefinite state wide strike held demanding increase in procurement price.

Sangam President K A Sengottuvel told PTI that the stir had been called off. The next course of action will be decided at the executive committee meet of the Sangam, he said.

Increasing the procurement price of cow's milk to Rs 30 from the present Rs 23 a litre and buffalo milk's price to Rs 40 from Rs 31 were the major demands.

"The small milk producers across the state were coerced by police and several government department officials to give up participation in the strike" he alleged, adding, the Sangam had "no other option" but to formally call off the agitation and resume supplies.

The Sangam launched the strike on February 4 and had suspended supply of milk from several centres to state-run Aavin (Tamil Nadu Co-op Milk Producers Federation)facilities.
