Minor boy detained overnight by police

A minor boy, accused of petty thefts, was allegedly illegally detained overnight by police here, prompting Child Welfare Committee to summon the in charge of the police station today.

The Child Welfare Committee received a complaint about the alleged detention of the 16-year-old boy at the Mathura Gate police station, said Alok Sharma, chairman of the committee.

After the complaint was found to be true, the in charge of the Mathura Gate police station Pushpendra Singh was today summoned for violating the Juvenile Justice Act.

As per the Act, no child below the age of 18 years can be kept at a police station overnight, he said.
