Minor girls drown in Odisha

Two minor girls today drowned while taking bath at a village pond in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, the police said.

The incident took place at Durgapur village under the jurisdiction of Baisinga police station.

Locals fished the bodies out of the pond and rushed to Baisinga hospital where doctors declared them dead.

The police registered a case of unnatural death, Betanoti Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Dhiren Chandra Nanda said.

The deceased were identified as Ranjita Naik (9) and Ruchi Naik (8). They were cousins.

Ranjita was the daughter of Sadananda Naik of Durgapur village.

Ruchi was a resident of Duluda village in Balasore district.
 

She had come to her uncle's house in Durgapur village to spend the summer vacation.

Her father had passed away earlier.
