Unidentified miscreants
damaged several ATMs in Burdwan and Panagarh towns of Burdwan district and took away cash, a senior police officer said today.
Interestingly two of the ATMs were located in the Police Lines of the district headquarters town.
While a sum of Rs 13 lakh was found missing from an UCO bank ATM in the policelines, the exact looted amount of the PNB ATM was not yet assessed, the officer said.
In Panagarh, the miscreants tried to damage an SBI ATM but failed and the AC inside the transparent-walled cubicle caught fire partly gutting the machine, the officer said.
Police and bank officials discovered burnt currencies stashed inside the SBI ATM this morning.
