A school student, who had been missing for a week, was found hanging from a tree here today under mysterious circumstances, a senior official said.

The deceased, Pushpendra Patel, was a Class 12 student at the central government-run residential school Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya here and his family suspects foul play in his death.

According to School Principal J Sarojamma, Patel's aunt came to the campus on September 2 and took him along with her. He came back on September 6 all alone but later ran away from the institute, he added.

The student was found hanging from a tree in the school premises, the official said.

However, his aunt claimed she never visited the school. Patel's family suspects foul play in the entire episode and blamed the school management for the incident.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ashok Ohri said the matter will be investigated soon.

Local residents staged a protest over the incident.
