As many as 34 activists of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) were taken into police custody today for allegedly disrupting a marathon run organised by the civic body in Vasai, police said.

The MNS workers were protesting against organising the 6th Mayor Marathon, which they claimed was a waste of public money by the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation.

The activists carrying banners and placards stopped the run at Nallasopara, following which they were picked up by the police and taken to Tulinj police station.

According to a police officer, they have been booked under the Bombay Police Act and section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC.
