A MNS leader was arrested for allegedly sticking posters in the city four years ago against outsiders in Maharashtra, police said.

Atul Chandak, the general secretary of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's state unit, was arrested last night and charged under sections 153(A)1 (promoting enmity between different groups), 505(2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) and 34 of IPC, they said.

Chandak along with some other activists had allegedly put up posters in the city's Satpur area in September 2009 asking people not to provide jobs to outsiders.

That time, Satpur police had registered an offence against Chandak.

Meanwhile, MNS legislator for Nashik, Vasant Gite alleged that Chandak's arrest was part of a "political plot" and police's role in the case was suspicious.

However, NCP MLA Jayant Jadhav said the arrest was done through a legal process and there was no political stunt or pressure on police to arrest him.
