Mob ransacks DVC's Raghunathpur thermal power plant office

Press Trust of India Kolkata
A mob of some 40-50 people today ransacked the administrative office of the Damodar Valley Corporation's under-construction thermal power plant at Raghunathpur in Purulia district.

An official of the company said that members of the "Bhumi Rakkha Committee", a Left-backed organisation mainly consisting of land-owners, barged into the site office of the project in the morning and ransacked it.

"They also heckled our employees and officials present there. However, they have not been able to damage critical equipment," the official said.

The mob were demanding jobs against land which were acquired by the government from them for the 1320MW (660x2) capacity thermal power plant.

Recently, the government handed over 150 acres of land required for a water pipeline for the project.

DVC sources said that the first unit with the installed capacity of 660 MW will be operational by next quarter.
