The Railways has formed a separate Directorate to focus on increasing the speed of passenger and freight trains.
The creation of Mobility Directorate is part of the "Mission Raftar" announced in the Rail budget 2016-17, said a senior Railway Ministry official.
The Directorate has been carved out to identify and prioritise the corridors for running trains on higher speed.

The Railways had in the budget also announced 'Tejas' envisaging running trains at 130 km speed. Besides, the public transporter is planning to bring freight trains under timetable.
The Mobility Directorate will consider various options to decongest the identified stretch for enhancing the speed on the existing track.
