Mizoram Excise and Narcotics minister R Lalzirliana today said officials of the department will be having more responsibilities when the newly-legislated Mizoram Liquor Prohibition and Control (MLPC) Act, 2014 comes in force in the state.
Addressing the general conference of the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Service Association (MENSA) here, Lalzirliana said the Mizoram Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1995, in force in the state for 17 years did more harm than good, prompting the government to initiate a new liquor law.
He said people consuming liquor would have access to quality liquor and to a large extent prevent consumption of spurious liquor after the new Act comes in force.
Lalzirliana had earlier said the new liquor law would be implemented during the current fiscal.
