Congress leader and former chief minister Mukul Sangma has been recognised as the leader of opposition, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Donkupar Roy announced today.
He said the assembly secretariat has issued notification in this regard.
The former chief minister was elected CLP leader. The Congress had won 21 of the 59 seats the party contested.
Sangma who won from Ampati and Songsak has resigned from his home constituency Ampati which he has represented since 1993.
Election to Williamnagar constituency has been reprimanded following the death of one of the candidates.
Elections for the two seats are yet to be announced by the Election Commission.
