Unidentified assailants shot dead a murder accused on bail at a railway crossing here today, sparking tension in the area.
Kishori Ram (40) was the prime accused in a couple of murder cases in 2013. He was getting threats by a criminal organisation and was killed this morning, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) M N Upadhyaya said.
The body was sent to the Sitamarhi Sadar Hospital for postmortem, where a large number of supporters of Ram gathered and raised slogans against the administration.
Heavy deployment of police personnel has been made to ensure that the situation remained under control. Sitamarhi SP Hari Prasath and several other officials were present at the hospital campus.
