Music associations dedicate annual festival to flood-hit

City-based Music Academy and other popular associations today announced to dedicate the annual Carnatic music festival this month to the flood-hit people.

"We express our full solidarity with the tens of thousands of suffering people and have decided to dedicated this Margazhi (Tamil month) season to them," they said in a joint statement.

The associations included the N Murali-headed Music Academy, Narada Gana Sabha, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Sri Parthasarathy Swamy Sabha, Tamil Isai Sangam, Brahma Gana Sabha, Kartik fine Arts and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan-Chennai Kendra.

The annual Carnatic music season in December here is a popular outing with scores of 'rasikas' (fans) thronging the sabhas where famous musicians perform.
 

The associations expressed "deep, heartfelt sorrow and distress on the loss of lives" and damage to property including dwelling units.

"We acknowledge with gratitude all the performing artistes who through their art are providing relief to the suffering fellow citizens, despite their own difficulties.

Our sincere thanks are due to the artistes who have already expressed their generous intention to donate a portion or their whole remuneration to relief funds," it said.
