Gulzar Azmir, Secretary (legal), Jamait-ul-e-Hind (Ardhad Madani), which has provided legal aid to two persons Fahim Ansari and Sabauddin Shaikh, who were jointly tried with Kasab, was the first to welcome the execution.

"In Islam such people have no place...The only sentence is death for a person who engages in violence, as per Islam," he said.

The Centre and Maharashtra government had taken a right step in the right direction," he said, adding, people from across the border who engage in terrorism must not be tolerated and they should be punished as early as possible.

"It would give a strong message to the international community and our stand on zero tolerance should be made known, he said.

Maulana Sayed Ather, secretary of All India Ulema Association, also welcomed the judgement.

"Crores of rupees have been spent on Kasab... It is good that he has been executed in keeping with Indian laws," he said, adding, it is a homage to the victims.

Anjuman Bashindegan-e-Bihar's Mahmmed Haqimi, has described the execution as a right step ahead of the 26/11 anniversary.
