An official says Myanmar's parliament will select the country's next president tomorrow from a group of three final candidates, including the front runner who is a longtime confidant of Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

Parliament speaker Mann Win Khaing Than said today that lawmakers will vote in the presidential selection process on Tuesday morning in Myanmar's Union Parliament.

Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party won a Nov. 8 general election by a landslide, gaining an overwhelming majority in both houses of parliament.

Suu Kyi is effectively barred from the presidency by the constitution but her party has nominated two candidates, including close confidante Htin Kyaw, who is expected to become president. A military bloc in parliament also selected its own candidate.
