Nasheed leaves for US

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) said that Nasheed would first travel to Washington, where he is to meet US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Robert Blake.

He will also meet the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the sub-committee of Middle East and Asia Committee.

During his visit, Nasheed is also scheduled to attend the premiere of 'Island President' screened by Amnesty International in Washington.

He is also scheduled to attend the round table meeting hosted by Amnesty International. Nasheed is scheduled to return to Maldives on July 1.
