National awards for best electoral practices given away

President Pranab Mukherjee today gave away national awards for best electoral practices and awards for excellence to four states, including Delhi.

The national award comprises three awards for district election officers and Superintendents of Police of district and a Special Award for officers outside the district machinery.

Awards for excellence to states for 2013 were given to Delhi, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Tripura. Media awards for the Best Campaign on Voter Education and Awareness was handed over to Rajasthan Patrika and Doordarshan Girnar, Gujarat.

The President also handed over voter I cards to 6 new voters of Delhi on the occasion of National Voters' Day here.
 

The first award was given to Joga Ram, district election officer of Kota, Rajasthan for his efforts to increase voter turnout in the district -- highest among all 33 districts of Rajasthan.

District election officer, Chamarajangar, Karnataka M V Savithri also received the first award for highly motivated polling staff. An EC document said 90 per cent villagers from 'boycott' villages came out to vote.

The second award was given to Alarmelmangai D, district election officer of Kanker in Chhattisgarh for micro level planning at polling station level in left wing extremist affected area to facilitate people to vote. SP of Kanker district Rajendra Narayan Dash also received the award for differential force deployment to counter Naxal threat during elections.

Kundan Kumar, district election officer of Saran, Bihar also got second award for holding special camps for women registration.

Third award went to Ashok Kumar Bhargava, district election officer of Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh and Simrandeep Singh, district election officer of Leh in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jaideep Govind, CEO of Madhya Pradesh, Priyanka Shukla, CEO of zila parishad, Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh and Capt Pradeep Shourya Arya, Jt Commissioner of Income Tax, Belgaum in Karnataka were given Special Award.

Delhi, Karnataka, Tripura and Rajasthan were awarded Award for Excellence.
