NATO says one of its service members has been killed by a member of the Afghan security forces in eastern Afghanistan.

The international coalition says the attack took place today and that the gunman was killed. NATO provided no other details.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack in a text message sent to media.

A spokesman for the governor of eastern Paktia province, Rohullah Samon, says the shooting took place on an Afghan base in the Gerda Sarai district.

Attiqullah Khan, district chief of Gerda Sarai, confirmed the attack but like Samon, had no more details.

It was the fourth so-called insider attack in less than a week in Afghanistan. Three American soldiers were killed by an Afghan soldier on Sept 21 in Paktia.
