The NCPEDP-Mindtree Helen Keller awards 2016, instituted by the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled Persons (NCPEDP), will be presented at India International Centre in Delhi, on the eve of the World Disability day, which falls on December 3.

These awards were announced in recognition of exceptional work done by corporates and individuals in the sector of generating employment for disabled persons.

Twelve awards have been announced under three categories, including role model disabled person, role model supporter of increased employment opportunities for disabled and role model companies, a NCPEDP release said today.

"Every year, as new and new people, organisations and supporters come into the fold of the Helen Keller Awards, I look back and see the journey we have made," said Javed Abidi, Honorary Director, NCPEDP.

"There has been sustained progress and while we have a long way to go, we have certainly created a community of aware and concerned 'doers', in the field of disability," Abidi added.

Abraham Moses, General Manager of Mindtree foundation said the Helen Keller Awards have been tremendously successful in drawing attention to the cause of people with disabilities and opening a dialogue on their intrinsic right to work.

"Inclusivity of people with disabilities has been a crucial aspect of Mindtree's charter. Mindtree foundation has done extensive work in developing technologies to assist people with disabilities," he said.
