New director assumes charge at Sugarcane Breeding Institute

Dr.Bakshi Ram, a distinguished Plant Breeder, has assumed charge as the Director of Sugarcane Breeding Institute (SBI) here.

He was serving as the Director of Uttar Pradesh Council of Sugarcane Research (UPCSR), prior to this assignment, an Institute release said today.

Belonging to the 1985 batch of Agricultural Research Service, Bakshi Ram graduated from CCS Haryana Agricultural University and went on to obtain his Post graduation and doctorate from the same University.

In his 30 years of experience in Plant Breeding, Bakshi Ram has developed 12 sugarcane varieties, one wheat variety and registered four sugarcane genetic stocks.

Bakshi Ram, who took charge on October 28, said his priority would be to develop extraordinary sugarcane varieties with high yield and quality, for every agro-climatic region of the country, the release said.
