A new Tamil TV news channel, News7Tamil, owned by diversified business conglomerate VV Group of Companies, would soon go on air, a top executive said today.

"This is a new initiative. We will launch very shortly. It is in advance stages (for launch)," News7Tamil News Head and former India correspondent of Al Jazeera English Rajesh Sundaram told reporters here.

He said an independent editorial board comprising six members had been formed to ensure "neutrality" in news content and presentation.

"Editorial Board will be a six member team. It will work independently and comprise people from different background," Sundaram told reporters here.

The team comprises former Head of Newsgathering, Al Jazeera English Nick Walshe, Executive Editor of Deccan Chronicle, Chennai, R Bhagwan Singh, poet and social activist Meena Kandasamy, advocate and columnist Priti Mohan and retired judge Venkataraman.

Singh said News7Tamil was the first to have an Editorial Board, whose members would change every year.

"The Board members are not paid. A viewer can send his feedback about any news content in the Channel to the Board directly through an email and the password for which will be with each Board member. They will ensure that the content shown is nothing but truth," he said.

The channel will be available on all major distribution platforms across the country. It would also be distributed in overseas markets, Sundaram said.
